Get to know me
Hi, I’m Zhirui! But if you’re staring at my name thinking, “Oh no, I don’t want to mess this up!”—don’t worry, you can call me Rae!
As a therapist, I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach—because let’s be real, life is way too layered and nuanced for that. Instead, I work with a flexible, integrative toolkit drawn from evidence-based modalities like CBT, DBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), trauma-informed care, person-centered therapy, and narrative therapy. Think of it as trying on different lenses until we find the one that helps you see your inner world with more clarity, compassion, and choice.
Therapy with me is collaborative, grounded, and deeply attuned to your pace and needs. Whether we’re sitting with difficult emotions, unblending protective parts, or anchoring into your core values, we’ll navigate your inner landscape together—one step, one insight at a time.
As a certified personal trainer (NASM), I also integrate fitness and movement into the therapeutic process when it supports your goals. I believe the body holds stories just like the mind does—and sometimes, strength training, mindful movement, or somatic awareness can become powerful tools for healing, empowerment, and reconnection. Together, we can work toward not only feeling better, but feeling stronger—from the inside out.
My past experiences:
-
My journey in crisis and suicide intervention began in 2016 at the London and District Distress Centre, where I provided direct crisis counselling to help de-escalate emergencies and support individuals in distress. The following year, I earned my Bachelor of Arts, Double Major in Psychology and Classical Studies from Western University, a combination that deepened my understanding of both the human mind and the narratives that shaped modern humanity.
After completing my Master of Social Work degree at the University of Windsor in 2019, I returned to crisis counselling at an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) company called Morneau Shepell (now TELUS Health), supporting individuals through life’s challenges.
-
I am an Ontario-authorized child protection worker and worked as a frontline worker at the Children’s Aid Society of Toronto from 2021 to 2025, investigating 300+ allegations of child abuse and neglect. In this role, I worked closely with families and youth, using a risk and solution-focused approach to assess concerns, build on strengths, and develop safety plans. My goal was always to collaborate with families—helping them identify challenges, address risks, and work toward meaningful and sustainable safety goals.
-
During my time at Morneau Shepell (now Telus Health), I worked as a tele-counsellor, providing ongoing therapy to individuals facing a wide range of challenges. From mental health concerns, relationship dynamics, and communication breakdowns to workplace stress, grief, substance use, and domestic violence, I’ve helped clients navigate life’s toughest moments. With over 2000+counselling hours, no matter the issue, I bring a sharp clinical eye, a compassionate approach, and solution-focused skills to guide clients toward clarity, resilience, and lasting change.
-
I’m certified by the US National Academy of Sports Medicine as a personal trainer, allowing me to bring a unique, holistic edge to my psychotherapy practice.
With expertise in both mental health and fitness coaching, I don’t just help you navigate life’s challenges—I help you build a lifestyle that supports your overall well-being, resilience, and confidence. Whether you're working through stress, anxiety, or major life transitions, we can integrate movement, mindfulness, and sustainable habits into our sessions to create meaningful, long-term change.
